Colouring your hair during Pregnancy.

Hi,

Pregnancy๐Ÿคฐ changes the entire world๐ŸŒ of a woman. A woman cannot be what she used to be once!. Everything needs to monitored from what she eats to what she wears, how she sits, sleeps and of course what she applies to her hair! which is not an exception!.

Women have their reasons, to colour the hair. Some want to add a zing๐Ÿ’ƒ to their personality, some want to beat the blues and some want to hide the not so good greys!. So, How about colouring your hair during pregnancy?

Well, research๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ”ฌ says the chemicals๐Ÿงช found in semi-permanent, permanent and temporary dyes are not highly toxic and are considered safe to use during pregnancy as a very little amount of the dye is absorbed by the skin which can reach and harm the growing baby in the womb. Doctors๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍⚕️ recommend waiting until the second trimester๐Ÿคฐ to dye the hair as the development of the organs of the baby is completed by then and the baby will have immunity to the colouring agents.

Hair dyes contain chemicals such as Ammonia, P-phenylenediamine, Coal Tar, Toluene, Resorcinol, Peroxide, methylisothiazolinone, DMDM hydantoin and fragrances which can cause allergic reactions and side effects especially when the immune system is weak, as is the case during pregnancy. Therefore, Doctors and Experts recommend avoiding hair dyes containing the above mentioned toxic chemicals during pregnancy and opting for hair dyes/colours made with natural ingredients that are tested for heavy metals and are safe to use during pregnancy. One can also opt for only highlights as the dye is only placed on strands of the hair and does not touch the scalp.

Doctors๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍⚕️ and Experts recommend trying substitutes for chemical hair dyes. There are many natural hair dye/colour options available such as Henna, Tea, Coffee, Beetroot Juice, Carrot Juice and Lemon Juice.
