Encourage kids to eat healthy food.

                   Eating healthy food is essential for children’s mental and physical development. A healthy balanced diet includes all the essential vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that children need for healthy growth and development. 


                  Children need a balanced diet with food from all 3 food groups—vegetables and fruit, whole grain products, and protein foods. The best foods are whole, fresh and unprocessed—fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, dairy, and meats; and home-cooked meals. Healthy fats contain essential fatty acids like omega-3 and omega-6 that cannot be made in the body and must come from food. Cook with vegetable oils such as canola, olive and/or soybean. Healthy fats are also found in salad dressings, non-hydrogenated margarines, nut butters (e.g. peanut butter) and mayonnaise.


You can encourage children to eat healthy food by following some simple steps mentioned below:


1. Eat with your children. Enjoy mealtime as a family, while eating healthy home-cooked food .

2. Include a variety of foods from all food groups at mealtimes. Include fresh fruits, vegetables and lean meats.

3. Offer healthy snacks such as fruit salad, smoothies, fruit yoghurt, popcorns etc. Avoid junk food.

4. Involve your children while preparing food, give them their age-appropriate chores to help cook a meal as this excites the child to eat the food prepared by them.

5. Involve your children while shopping for food and help them to pick healthy food which they like.

6. For young children offer food that they can easily eat, cut the food in small pieces to prevent choking, you can mash the food as well. Help your children learn to use a spoon or cup so they can eat independently.

7. Set a regular mealtime for children. They need 3 meals a day and 1-3 healthy snacks in between them.

8. Most importantly, be a Role Model for your child. Make healthy choices so that your children will follow a healthy lifestyle.
